We will accompany eleven talents from the region Middle East and Africa on their way to unleash their own potential.

Above-average performance, a willingness to work on their own career and the courage to undergo change – this is what unites the eleven participants of the Talent Camp in Istanbul. Today, they meet for the first time to get to know each other to and to face the new challenges together. The talents come from all over the region:  from South Africa to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Over the next three months, they will work in mixed teams on the tasks of the Talent Camp. Mixed in this case does not only mean cross-border, it also means that the talents come from different areas of the thyssenkrupp organization. The different perspectives will prove useful in the upcoming months, because the tasks require leaving their own comfort zone.

The challenge

This year’s Talent Camp is about project management. How do I initiate and manage a project? How do I analyze stakeholders? How should I react if something is not going according to the project plan? The talents get answers to these questions in workshops. The project work is based on genuine strategic business questions confronting the project sponsors of thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions and Elevator Technology in their day-to-day business. The talents not only have to find answers to the questions, but also work through the entire course of the project in exemplary fashion. A great challenge, because after the joint kick-off event the talents will only meet again for the final presentations. In the meantime, the work on the project has to be arranged by telephone, video conference or e-mail. Not an easy task, because at the same time the everyday business continues for the participants.

The Kick-Off

So far, they only knew each other through telephone calls, now the participants of the first Talent Camp for the Middle East and Africa region meet in Istanbul. The atmosphere is energized, because the groundwork for the next three months is now being laid. After the official opening, the exciting part begins – the formation of the teams. Special attention was paid to create mixed teams.  Because it is precisely the different perspectives that can help to solve the business challenges.

In addition to demanding business challenges, networking was also a central aspect of the Talent Camp. The participants had to get to know each other in order to work closer together in the future

In small group discussions, all remaining questions are answered directly by the project sponsors. This provides a particularly good overview of the challenges of the respective business area. How exactly the talents will solve the challenges will become apparent in the upcoming months. This requires brainpower and ambitiousness, because the cooperation will take place primarily on a virtual basis – very much in line with future working models.

Start signal has been given

One thing’s for sure: The combination of realistic topics and high-quality workshops provides the talents with a good foundation for the successful and sustainable implementation of future projects. But not only that! New contacts, skills and increased visibility in the organization are also positive effects for the participants. These can be used directly to grow into the new, demanding roles in the organization.

How, where and when the talents will work on the challenges in the future is entirely in their hands. This is also a challenge of the camp – self-organization. After the starting signal has already been given, we are curious to see how things will continue. We will accompany the eleven participants on their way and ask them how things are going with the respective projects.
